Summary:

Pg. 125, 131-136, 152-158; see also Jour. Geol., v. 30, p. 24, 31. Avis sandstone, basal member of Thrifty formation of Cisco group in Brazos River Valley, Texas. Persistent but variable deposit of coarse-grained sandstone, grit, or conglomerate, ranging in thickness from 5 to 40+ feet. Locally, towards south, appears to be somewhat soft and calcareous. Lies 35 to 80 feet below Ivan limestone member (new). In places rests on fossiliferous Wayland shale member (new) of Graham; in other places on underlying Gunsight limestone member (new) of Graham. Correlated by Plummer with Trickham bed of Drake [1893], in Colorado River Valley. Age is Pennsylvanian.
Typically developed in Jack, Young, and Stephens Cos., Brazos River region, central northern TX. Named from town of Avis, Jack Co., TX.
[GNC classified the named subunits of the Thrifty as members. See Wilmarth, M.G., compiler, 1930, Tentative correlation of the named geologic units of Texas, USGS unpub. corr. chart, Sept., 1930, sheet 3 of 3.]

Summary:

Pg. 232. Used Avis sandstone for the beds underlying Breckenridge limestone, top member of Thrifty formation, and overlying Speck Mountain limestone in Colorado River Valley (McCulloch County), and stated that Parks Mountain conglomerate of Drake (the type of which is in adjoining Coleman County) is a conglomeratic phase of Avis sandstone. Age is Pennsylvanian.

Summary:

The USGS at present [ca. 1938] treats Avis sandstone as basal member of Thrifty formation in Brazos River region, and Parks Mountain sandstone member of Colorado River region as much younger, lying immediately below Chaffin limestone and resting on Lohn shale member of Thrifty. Age is Pennsylvanian.
