Pg. 4 (table 1); App., p. A10-13 to A10-15. Chilton Member of Kewaunee Formation. Follows the informal usage of D.M. Mickelson (McCartney and Mickelson, 1982, GSA Bull., v. 93, p. 297-302). Consists of reddish-brown silt, clay, and sand till. Thickness 1 to 3 m. Distinctly overlies Branch River Member (new) of Kewaunee Formation or Horicon Formation (new). Abruptly underlies Glenmore Member (new) of the Kewaunee or lies at the surface. Occurs on east side of Green Bay Lobe in Wisconsin. Contact with equivalent Kirby Lake Member (new) of the Kewaunee, on west side of Green Bay Lobe, is an arbitrarily drawn vertical cutoff at the Fox River. Is also equivalent to Haven Member (new) and Valders Member of the Kewaunee in the Lake Michigan Lobe. Age is Pleistocene (late Wisconsinan).
Type section (=Glenmore Member type section): DePere site, north-facing exposure in gravel pit about 100 m northwest of large radio tower, north of County Trunk Highway X, near top of Silurian escarpment, in southeast corner of sec. 38, T. 23 N., R. 20 E., [approx. Lat. 44 deg. 24 min. 35 sec. N., Long. 88 deg. 00 min. 12 sec. W.], eastern edge DePere 7.5-min quadrangle, Brown Co., eastern WI.
Named from the city of Chilton, Chilton 7.5-min quadrangle, Calumet Co., eastern WI; name credited to David M. Mickelson.
