A comment by J. Wright Horton, Jr. about
I have a copy of R.B. Travis's (1955) booklet, Classification of Rocks, but wouldn't recommend it as a standard. It is outdated by almost half a century and has been superseded by developments in recent decades such as the widely-used IUGS classification of igneous rocks. Otherwise, the booklet is concise, well organized, and handy. After the Science Language Technical Team endorses standards for rock classification and nomenclature, an updated version might be useful.
