Northeast Carry Formation here named and assigned to the Seboomook Group, raised in rank. Type section of the Northeast Carry is identical in location to the Seboomook Formation of Boucot (1961). Unit is predominantly a greenish-gray to medium-dark-gray, poorly sorted very fine- to fine-grained sandstone with cyclically interbedded medium-dark to dark-gray metasiltstones or claystone slates. Formation is estimated to be 4300 m thick at the type section. Overlies Ironbound Mountain Formation and underlies unnamed slates. Age is Early Devonian (Siegenian).

Cyclically bedded fine-grained quartz-arenite and gray slate compose most of the Northeast Carry Formation of the Seboomook Group. Beds range from 2 cm to 2 m in thickness. Unlike other formations in this study, primary sedimentary structures are preserved, including convolute laminations, cross bedding, and sole markings. Overlies Ironbound Mountain Formation. Age is Early Devonian.
