Summary:

Pg. 4 (table 1); App., p. A3-1 to A3-5. Lincoln Formation. Follows the informal usage of W.N. Mode (Univ. Wisconsin MS thesis, 1976.) Occurs in the Chippewa Sublobe in Lincoln, Langlade, Marathon, Wood, Clark, and Taylor Counties, Wisconsin. Consists of reddish brown till and associated sand and gravel. Maximum thickness 20 m. Subdivided into (ascending) Bakerville Member and Merrill Member (both new). Is the surface unit in most areas. Overlies Marathon Formation (new) or Precambrian bedrock. Age is Pleistocene (early Wisconsinan or older), based on organic matter overlying the Merrill Member.
Type section (=Bakerville Member type section): in gravel pit east of Robin Road, about 250 m south of its intersection with [County Trunk Highway BB (Heritage Drive)], 1 mi (1.7 km) west of Bakerville, in SE/4 NW/4 NW/4 sec. 26, T. 25 N., R. 2 E., [approx. Lat. 44 deg. 37 min. 27 sec. N., Long. 90 deg. 14 min. 06 sec. W.], northern edge Lake Manakiki 7.5-min quadrangle, Wood Co., central WI.
Named from Lincoln Co., central WI; name credited to William N. Mode.

Summary:

Pg. 174. †Lincoln Formation. Term abandoned here because researchers such as Attig, 1993 (Wisconsin Geol. Nat. Hist. Survey Bull., no. 90) and Syverson, 2007 (Wisconsin Geol. Nat. Hist. Survey Bull., no. 103) could not differentiate till of the Lincoln Formation from till of the Copper Falls Formation in the field. Merrill and Bakerville Members are transferred to Copper Falls Formation.
