Summary:

Named as third (of four named members) of Straight Cliffs Formation for exposures in Smoky Hollow about 3 mi east of John Henry Canyon, Kane Co, UT. Type section measured in SE1/4 NW1/4, and W1/2 NW1/4 sec 32, and N1/2 NE1/4 sec 31, T41S, R4E. Occurs in Plateau sedimentary province. Consists of cliff- and slope-forming, interbedded, yellow-brown to grayish-orange, very fine- to medium-grained, cross-bedded to ripple cross-laminated sandstone, dark gray to black, very thin- to thin-bedded mudstone, and carbonaceous mudstone, and coal. Divided into a lower coal zone, lower barren zone, Christensen coal zone, middle barren zone, Rees coal zone, and upper barren zone. Ranges from 660 ft in southwest part of area to 1,080 ft in northeast part. Unconformably overlies Smoky Hollow Member; underlies Drip Tank Member. Is predominantly nonmarine in southwest and marine in northeast. Is fossiliferous (inoceramids, cephalopods, shark teeth, Ophiomorpha). Assigned a middle Coniacian to early Campanian, Late Cretaceous age.
