Summary:

Pg. 4 (table 1); App., p. A2-3 to A2-5. Edgar Member of Marathon Formation. (Follows the informal usage of W.N. Mode, 1976, Univ. Wisconsin MS thesis.) Is the upper member of Marathon Formation (new) in the Chippewa Sublobe in southwestern Marathon, northern Wood, and eastern Clark Counties, Wisconsin. Consists of yellowish- to reddish-brown, calcareous, silty, pebbly loam to clay and silt loam. Thickness <3 to 10 m. Underlies Bakerville Member (new) of Lincoln Formation (new) or is the surface unit. Lower contact generally not observed in outcrop; overlies Precambrian bedrock or Wausau Member (new) of the Marathon. Age is Pleistocene (early Wisconsinan or older).
Type section: exposure in Chicago and Northwestern RR cut, [about 1.5 mi south-southwest of Edgar], on south side of County Trunk Highway N, in NW/4 NE/4 NW/4 sec. 24, T. 28 N., R. 4 E., [approx. Lat. 44 deg. 54 min. 04 sec. N., Long. 89 deg. 58 min. 39 sec. W.], Edgar 7.5-min quadrangle, Marathon Co., central WI. Named from the village of Edgar, Edgar 7.5-min quadrangle, Marathon Co., central WI; name credited to William N. Mode.
Reference section: exposure in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Sault Ste. Marie RR cut, on north side of Yellowstone Drive, about 0.3 mi (0.5 km) west of its intersection with Day Road, and about 0.6 mi (0.9 km) east of village of Hewitt, in SE/4 SW/4 SE/4 sec. 13, T. 25 N., R. 3 E., [approx. Lat. 44 deg. 38 min. 28 sec. N., Long. 90 deg. 05 min. 06 sec. W.], Hewitt 7.5-min quadrangle, Wood Co., central WI.
