Named for old mining camp of Dubois on Goose Creek [T47N, R3W], Gunnison Co, CO in Southern Rocky Mountain region. No type locality designated. Consists of a series of metamorphosed basic rocks called metabasites comprising hornblende gneisses, amphibole schists, or amphibolite, chlorite schists, and ultrabasic rocks that extend in a zone of varying width and persistency from Lake Fork of Gunnison River on the west to a point beyond South Beaver Creek on the east, a distance of approximately 18 mi. The zone ranges in width from 4 mi to less than 1 mile. Is in contact with mica schists and granitic bodies. Overlain by Tertiary volcanic rocks. Is of pre-Cambrian age.

Is a unit of varied metavolcanic and subordinate metasedimentary rock characterized by relict primary structures. Is part of pre-1,700 m.y. (or Precambrian age) metamorphic complex. Known on Gunnison River area, Montrose Co, CO in Southern Rocky Mountain region.

In the Gunnison region, CO in Southern Rocky Mountain region, where metamorphism less intense than in Front Range, felsic and mafic volcanics are interlayered with various sedimentary rocks. Mafic and predominately hornblendic volcanic rocks have been assigned to Early Proterozoic Dubois Greenstone on some maps and this same type of unit on other maps has been identified by lithologic designation only.
