Mickelson, D.M., Clayton, Lee, Baker, R.W., Mode, W.N., and Schneider, A.F., 1984, Pleistocene stratigraphic units of Wisconsin: Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey Miscellaneous Paper, no. 84-1, 15 p.

Summary:

Pg. 4 (table 1); App., p. A1-4 to A1-6. Clinton Member of the Walworth Formation. Pebbly, sandy, yellowish-brown till containing little clay. Thickness <1 m to 12+ m. Is the upper member of Walworth Formation (new) in southern Wisconsin and northernmost Illinois. Overlies Allens Grove Member (new) of Walworth Formation [=Argyle Till Member of Winnebago Formation in Illinois]; contact is sharp to gradational. Underlies Capron Member of Zenda Formation (new) [=Capron Till Member of Winnebago Formation in Illinois]; contact is sharp. Is the surface unit in eastern Rock and western Walworth Counties, Wisconsin. Name credited to Carl Fricke (Univ. Wisconsin MS thesis, 1976) and David M. Mickelson. Age is Pleistocene (early Wisconsinan or older).
Type section (outcrop and subsurface; =Walworth Formation type section): roadcut and test hole along Highway 15 (Beloit-Milwaukee Road), 2 mi (3.2 km) northeast of Clinton, in NE/4 SW/4 sec. 3, T. 1 N., R. 14 E., [approx. Lat. 42 deg. 34 min. 20 sec. N., Long. 88 deg. 49 min. 37 sec. W.], Clinton 7.5-min quadrangle, Rock Co., southern WI.
Named from the village of Clinton; name credited to Carl Fricke and David M. Mickelson.
Reference section: Turtle Town quarry [on north side of Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul, and Pacific RR], in NW/4 SW/4 NW/4 sec. 22, T. 1 N., R. 13 E., [approx. Lat. 42 deg. 31 min. 58 sec. N., Long. 88 deg. 57 min. 03 sec. W.], Shopiere 7.5-min quadrangle, Rock Co., southern WI (described by Bleuer, 1971, Univ. Wisconsin PhD dissert., and briefly by Fricke, 1976).
