Type section: in tributary of Fourmile Canyon from SW/4 sec. 17, T. 14 S., R. 2 E., northeast to SW/4 sec. 9, south along Tidds-Fourmile divide to approx. center sec. 21, T. 14 S., R. 2 E., Juab Co., UT. Named from erosion surface "South Flat" in secs. 9 and 10, T. 14 S., R. 2 E., between North Pole Canyon and Tidds Canyon (Hunt, 1954).
