The National Geologic Map Database project (NGMDB) is a collaborative effort between the USGS and AASG. Since the NGMDB's inception in 1995, members of the project's core group of scientists and computer systems experts has of course changed, and we gratefully acknowledge the important work of those who aren't on the "active roster." The NGMDB project also owes a significant debt to its many collaborators, and to the agencies and committees with which it interacts (for example, see Appendix A in a previous year's NGMDB progress report).
The project team is responsible for:
- Customer service
- Geoscience Map Catalog (bibliographic database, and images of selected maps)
- U.S. Geologic Names Lexicon (Geolex)
- Mapping in Progress Database
- Archives of unpublished, supporting scientific information (paper and digital)
- Geographic viewers of geologic and related maps
- Web site and database design and management
- Development of technical standards and guidance
- Creating regional- and National-scale map databases
