Named from typical exposures on Ajibik Hills, northeast of Palmer, [about 2.5 mi west of Sands 7.5-min quadrangle, and west-southwest of Grace Lake in SE/4 sec. 13, T. 47 N., R. 26 E., Palmer 7.5-min quadrangle, Marquette Co.], Marquette district, Northern Peninsula, northwestern MI (Van Hise and Bayley, 1895; Gair and Thaden, 1968).
