Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: extends from NW/4 sec. 11, T. 14 N., R. 1 E., south-southeast through sec. 14 to northern part of sec. 23, Sky Village NE 7.5-min quadrangle, Sandoval Co., northwestern NM. Named from Zia Indian Pueblo (Galusha, 1966; see also Manley, 1978).
Type area: west of Jemez fault, in secs. 11, 12, 13, 23, and 24, T. 14 N., R. 1 E., Sandoval Co., northwestern NM (Galusha, 1966).
