Type section: at Crystal Mountains, [Montgomery Co., Ouachita National Forest], west-central AR (H.D. Miser, March, 1937; Wilmarth, 1938).
Named from town of Womble [now called Norman], part of which is on the base of this shale, Montgomery Co., west-central AR (Miser, 1917).
