Type section: forms northern limb of anticline just west of Little Picacho Wash, southwest corner Picacho SW 7.5-min quadrangle, CA. Origin of name not stated by authors, but probably named from Winterhaven, a town on west side of Colorado River, Imperial Co., CA (Haxel and others, 1985).
