Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type locality: along Wando River, between Charleston and Berkeley Cos., SC (Sloan, 1905).
Type section (composite; outcrop and subsurface): (1) section measured in wall of sand pit 10 km east of Charleston; and (2) section in drillhole into floor of pit. [Pit now filled with water and slumped sediment; owned by Banks Construction Company and located north of Venning Road and east of Route 17-A] (McCartan and others, 1980).
