Type section: on northeast side of Alamo Canyon in SE/4 SW/4 SW/4 sec. 6, T. 17 S., R. 11 E., Sacramento Mountains, Otero Co., NM. Named from station of Valmont on the Southern Pacific RR, in sec. 14, T. 18 S., R. 9 E., about 10 mi south of Alamogordo (Pray, 1953).
