Type section: on Tennessee Mountain where a typical sequence can be observed northeastward from Sunflower Reservoir, across Waterlog Summit, east of Slate Creek, to Tennessee Mountain, Rowland quadrangle, Elko Co., NV. Named from Tennessee Mountain (Bushnell, 1967).
