Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: roadcuts 1.2 km southwest of Teneriffe School, in NW/4 NE/4 SW/4 sec. 11, T. 4 S., R. 4 W., Pike Co., west-central IL. Named from Teneriffe School, 2.5 mi northeast of New Salem, Pike Co., IL (Willman and Frye, 1970).
