Type locality: at the south edge of Survant (abandoned town), along the Patoka River, in SW/4 NE/4 sec. 2, T. 2 S., R. 7 W., Pike Co., IN (Wier 1961, 1965).
Reference section (subsurface): Indiana Geological Survey drillhole SDH 306, located near type section, in SW/4 NE/4 sec. 2, T. 2 S., R. 7 W., Pike Co., southern IN (Hassenmueller and Ault, 1991).
