Named from town of Stapp, Le Flore Co., southeastern OK. Notable exposures in Kansas City Southern RR cut, 1 mi south of Stapp, in SW/4 SW/4 sec. 7, T. 3 N., R. 26 E., Le Flore Co., southeastern OK (Harlton, 1938).
