Type section: from southwest side of Sierra Buttes, near termination of old mining road (in SE/4 NE/4 NW/4 sec. 20, T. 20 N., R. 12 E.), to point about 150 m south of and below Sierra Buttes lookout (in SE/4 SW/4 SE/4 sec. 17, T. 20 N., R. 12 E.); upper part of section begins near Mountain Mine, in SW/4 NE/4 SE/4 sec. 16, T. 20 N., R. 12 E., Sierra City 15-min quadrangle [Sierra Co., CA] (McMath, 1966).
