Type section (subsurface): depth-interval 8,400 to 9,450 ft, Magnolia Petroleum Company Sexton Unit 1 well, in SW/4 NW/4 SE/4 sec. 32, T. 23 N., R. 9 W., Webster Parish, LA. Named from the town and oil field of Shongaloo (Swain, 1944).
Type for Shongaloo (restricted): Lion Oil Refining Company and Phillips Petroleum Company, Edna Morgan No. 1 well (Mann and Thomas, 1964).
