Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type locality (of till): Sherwin Hill, Mount Goddard 15-min quadrangle [1912 ed.], Sierra Nevada, eastern central CA [approx. Lat. 37 deg. 30 min. 35 sec. N., Long. 118 deg. 36 min. 40 sec. W., Casa Diablo Mountain 7.5-min quadrangle, Inyo National Forest, Mono Co.]. Greatest expanse of till is in lobe east of Whiskey Canyon; along both sides of Rock Creek gorge, thickness of about 450 feet of glacial detritus is exposed (Putnam, 1949).
