Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

[Named from excellent exposures] in vicinity of Shea Mine [just south of Copper Chief Mine, Cottonwood 7.5-min quadrangle], Jerome district, Yavapai Co., central AZ. Crops out southeast and east of Mingus Mountain. Southeastern exposures appear north and south of Black Canyon and in the canyon west of the Verde fault. Eastern exposures form continuous belt northward from Oak Wash to Mescal Gulch (Reber, 1938; see Anderson and Creasey, 1958).
