Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Named from the Seminole [Indian] Nation, OK, the typical area being in the northwest corner of Coalgate quadrangle, near edge of Seminole [Indian] Nation, Hughes Co., OK (US geologic names lexicon, USGS Bull. 896).
Type locality: southeast part of Seminole [Indian] Nation, now Seminole Co. (probably T. 6 N., R. 7 and 8 E.) (Oakes, 1940).
