Subunits:

Ironbound Mountain, Day Mountain, Temple Stream, Mount Blue, Hildreths, Carrabassett, and Northeast Carry Formations (ME*).


Geologic age:

Early Devonian*


Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: on road and shore at east end of Seboomook Lake, and on Penobscot River for about a mile downstream from Seboomook Dam (Boucot, 1961).
Best exposure of formation is at Seboomook Dam (North East Carry quadrangle), on West Branch of Penobscot River [in extreme eastern part of Somerset Co.], Moosehead Lake region, western ME (Perkins, 1925; see also Boucot, 1961).
