Type area: Princess Coal Resource District, Boyd, Carter, Greenup, Lawrence, and Lewis Cos, northeastern KY (Chesnut, 1992).
Reference sections (subsurface): (1) lower half, USGS No. 5 diamond drillhole, Hazard and South quadrangles, Perry Co., KY; and (2) upper half, Kentucky Geological Survey No. R-2 diamond drillhole, Burnaugh quadrangle, KY (Chesnut, 1992).
