Named from exposures in Price River Canyon, northwest of town of Castlegate (Castle Gate formerly at mouth of Willow Creek, Castle Gate 15-min quadrangle, 1916 ed., Carbon Co.), central eastern UT (Spieker and Reeside, 1925).
