Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: roadcut along the western side of KY Highway 1274, 1.1 km north of the Licking River (Cave Run Lake), Bangor quadrangle, Rowan Co., KY. Named from Poppin Rock tunnel near Paragon, KY, 5.5 km east of the type section. (Ettensohn and others, 1984).
