GROUP STATUS (Jewett and others, 1965, in KS; alphabetical): Checkerboard Limestone, Seminole Formation, Tacket Formation.
FORMATION STATUS: includes Exline Limestone Member and Ovid coal bed in IA.

Late Pennsylvanian (Missourian)*


Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Named from exposures at Pleasanton, Linn Co., KS, where the schoolhouse hill is composed principally of these shales (Haworth, 1895, p. 44; see also MO Geol. Survey lexicon, Thompson, 2001).
