Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: Lectostratotype on Potomac River, 2.4 km below mouth of Aquia Creek, Stafford Co., VA (Ward, 1985). Named from Piscataway Creek which empties into the Potomac River on the Maryland bank, 10 mi below Washington, D.C. (Clark and Martin, 1901).
