Named from exposures near Naturita, [Montrose Co.], southwestern CO (Young, 1959, 1960).
Type section: north side of San Miguel River, about 2,000 ft northwest of Nucla coal power plant, [near center sec. 15], T. 46 N., R. 15 W., [in vicinity of Lat. 38 deg. 14 min. 30 sec. N., Long. 108 deg. 30 min. 30 sec. W., Naturita 7.5-min quadrangle], Montrose Co., CO (Young, 1965).
