Recognized in southwestern TX, notably Trans-Pecos area, Chinati Mountains, and Big Bend Ranch State Park area.

Tertiary (Eocene to Oligocene)


Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type locality: northern end of the Three Sisters, a mountain 1.3 mi southeast of Shafter, Presidio Co., southwestern TX. Named from Morita Ranch, 4 mi southeast of Shafter, in Chinati Peak quadrangle, southwestern TX (Dietrich, 1966).

Permian basin
