Named from Marsh Creek, north of Marysville, Lewis and Clark Co., Belt Mountains, southern central MT (Walcott, 1899).
Type section: at mouth of Marsh Creek, north of Marysville, Lewis and Clark Co., Belt Mountains, southern central MT. Town of Marysville is 20 mi northwest of Helena (Walcott, 1899; see also Knopf, 1950).
