Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type locality: discontinuous exposures in Quebrada Cajul north of Las Palmas (Puerto Rico Meter Grid System 78,050 E.; 17,380 N.), and on trails crossing Sierra Bermeja (Vermillion Range). Named from the highest hill, Cerro Mariquita (80,590 E.; 18,820 N.), Parguera quadrangle, southwestern Puerto Rico (Mattson, 1973).
