[Principal reference section]: along Route 120 northwest of Hacienda Balare, about 400 m north of Rio Maricao (Puerto Rico Meter Grid System 93,600 E.; 40,000 N.), Mayaguez area, Central la Plata quadrangle, northwestern Puerto Rico (McIntyre and others, 1970).
Named from exposures on Rio Maricao north of Maricao, Mayaguez area, northwestern Puerto Rico (Mattson, 1958).
