Type locality: on a foot trail along east flank of Cerro El Malo (Puerto Rico Meter Grid System 153,830 E.; 37,830 N.). Named from Cerro El Malo, a peak on the Cordillera Central in the southeast-central part of Orocovis quadrangle, central Puerto Rico (Briggs, 1967).
