Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section (subsurface): borehole, 0.3 mi north of junction of Route 50 and Johnston County Road 1168, and 0.1 mi east of NC 50, Johnston Co., NC. Typical outcrop is about 0.125 mi north of Benson. Macks Crossroads is 5 mi north of Benson (Daniels and others, 1966, 1972).
