Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type area: shores of Lake Vermilion, south and southeast to Embarrass and Babbitt, in western part of Vermilion District, St. Louis Co. (Morey and others, 1970).
Type localities designated for first 3 members: northwest of bridge on County Highway 77 over Pike River, in SW/4 sec. 3, T. 61 N., R. 16 W.; south of Lake Vermilion, 3.2 km west of Tower, along State Highway 169-1; fourth member exposed southeast of Tower, and north of Embarrass and Babbitt (Morey and others, 1970).
