Name from Lagarto Creek, Live Oak Co., where typically developed (Dumble, 1894; see also Deussen, 1924).
Type section (Lagarto restricted): exposures along Brenham-Houston Highway just west of Brazos River bridge, Washington Co., TX (Plummer, 1933).
