Named from Knoblick [Knob Lick] Mountain where unit is best exposed (Keyes and Haworth, 1895).
Typically exposed in area of Knoblick [Knob Lick] Mountain, in T. 34 N., R. 6 E., St. Francois Co., MO (Tolman and Robertson, 1969).
