Type section: at end of the hogback, 0.5 mi north of the South Platte River, at Kassler [now called Waterton], also type section of the South Platte, Jefferson Co., CO. Named from exposures near Kassler, Kassler quadrangle, Jefferson Co., CO (Waage, 1955).
