Reference section at Puu Kapukapu [approx. Lat. 19 deg. 16 min. 33 sec. N., Long. 155 deg. 15 min. 34 sec. W.], Kau Desert 7.5-min quadrangle, Hawaii Co., Hawaii Volcanoes Wilderness, Island of Hawaii, HI (Easton, 1987).
Named from Kahele Arroyo [Kahele Valley, approx. Lat. 19 deg. 17 min. 40 sec. N., Long. 155 deg. 17 min. 52 sec. W.], about 1 km east-southeast of Hilina Shelter, Kau Desert 7.5-min quadrangle, Hawaii Co., Hawaii Volcanoes Wilderness, Island of Hawaii, HI (Easton, 1987).
