Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section (composite): sections along south bluffs of Missouri River valley, beginning east of Jefferson City at mouth of Moreau River, northwest corner of sec. 24 or southwest corner of sec. 13, T. 44 N., R. 11 W., Osage City 7.5-min quadrangle, and extending west-northwest to mouth of Grays Creek, west of Jefferson City, center sec. 35, T. 45 N., R. 12 W., Jefferson City 7.5-min quadrangle, Cole Co., MO (in 1894 possibly located at SW/4 SE/4 sec. 27, T. 45 N., R. 12 W.) (Winslow, 1894; Thompson, 1991).
Reference sections: (1) New construction on U.S. Highway 50, T. 44 N., R. 11 E., Cole Co., central MO; and (2) new roadcut on U.S. Highway 63 immediately south of Westphalia, SW/4 NE/4 sec. 35 and SW/4 sec. 36, T. 43 N., R. 10 W., Westphalia East 7.5-min quadrangle, Osage Co., MO (Thompson, 1991).
