In Badlands, 5 km southeast of Indian village of Iron Lightning. Extends over 3 sq mi, in parts of secs 20, 28, 29, 32, and 33, T. 14 N., R. 19 E., and sec. 4, T. 13 N., R. 19 E., Ziebach Co., SD. Named from Indian village of Iron Lightning on Moreau River (Waage, 1968).
