Not stated. Occurs in southern type section of †Amador Group [later abandoned] along Merced River, Tuolumne and Mariposa Cos., CA. Origin of name not stated by author, but probably named from Hunter Valley in eastern part of Coulterville 15-min quadrangle, Mariposa Co., CA (Taliaferro, 1943).
