Type section [composite] (=principal reference section of Notch Peak Formation): basal part in SE/4 sec. 35 [unsurveyed], T. 19 S., R. 13 W., remainder in sec. 2, T. 20 S., R. 13 W., Notch Peak 15-min quadrangle, Sneakover Pass area, central House Range, Millard Co., central western UT (Hintze and others, 1988).
Reference sections: (1) Steamboat Pass-Lava Dam section [composite], in S/2 sec. 18 and NW/4 sec. 19, T. 23 S., R. 13 W., The Barn 15-min quadrangle (1960 ed.), southern House Range, Millard Co., central western UT; (2) Lawson Cove section, in SW/4 sec. 30, T. 24 S., R. 14 W., Frisco Peak 15-min quadrangle, Gray Hills area, Wah Wah Mountains, Millard Co., central western UT (Hintze and others, 1988).
Named from Hell'n Maria Canyon [now Hell'n Moriah], in secs. 25, 35, and 36 [unsurveyed], T. 19 S., R. 14 W., and in secs. 3 and 4 [unsurveyed], T. 20 S., R. 14 W., Notch Peak 15-min quadrangle (1960 ed.), central House Range, Millard Co., central western UT (Hintze and others, 1988).
