Summary:

Pg. 3 (fig. 2), 4-6, 7 (fig. 4), 16 (fig. 6), 20+ (measured sections), pl. 1 (corr. chart). Hellnmaria Member of Notch Peak Formation. Gray, chert-bearing, stromatolitic limestone or dolomite that forms massive cliffs and ledges, notably in the House Range and Wah Wah Mountains. Thickness 1,203 feet (366.7 m) at type section, 999 feet (304.5 m) at Steamboat Pass-Lava Dam section, and 1,340 feet (408.4 m) at Lawson Cove section. Is basal member of the Notch Peak Formation. Underlies Red Tops Member (new); overlies Sneakover Member of Orr Formation. Age equivalent of parts of Chokecherry Dolomite of Deep Creek Range, Dugway Ridge Dolomite of Dugway Range, and Ajax Dolomite of Sheeprock and East Tintic Mountains. Fossils [listed]. Contains faunas of trilobite zones (ascending) TAENICEPHALUS (upper subzone), IDAHOIA (IDAHOIA LIRAE to ELLIPSOCEPHALOIDES subzone), and SAUKIA (SAUKIELLA PYRENE subzone). Upper part of member contains faunas of conodont zones (ascending) PROCONODONTUS TENUISERRATUS and PROCONODONTUS (PROCONODONTUS POSTEROCOSTATUS subzone). Age is Late Cambrian (late Croixan; late Franconian to early(?) Trempeauleauan); [bdry. btw. Franconian and Trempeauleauan uncertain].
Type section [composite] (=principal reference section of Notch Peak Formation): basal part in SE/4 sec. 35 [unsurveyed], T. 19 S., R. 13 W., remainder in sec. 2, T. 20 S., R. 13 W., Notch Peak 15-min quadrangle, [Sneakover Pass area], central House Range, Millard Co., central western UT.
Reference sections: (1) Steamboat Pass-Lava Dam section [composite], in S/2 sec. 18 and NW/4 sec. 19, T. 23 S., R. 13 W., The Barn 15-min quadrangle (1960 ed.), southern House Range, Millard Co., central western UT; (2) Lawson Cove section, in SW/4 sec. 30, T. 24 S., R. 14 W., Frisco Peak 15-min quadrangle, Gray Hills area, Wah Wah Mountains, Millard Co., central western UT.
Named from Hell'n Maria Canyon [now Hell'n Moriah], in secs. 25, 35, and 36 [unsurveyed], T. 19 S., R. 14 W., and in secs. 3 and 4 [unsurveyed], T. 20 S., R. 14 W., Notch Peak 15-min quadrangle (1960 ed.), central House Range, Millard Co., central western UT.

Summary:

Pg. 38. Hellnmaria Member of Notch Peak Formation. Is basal member of Notch Peak Formation.
Upper boundary raised to include 44 feet of dominantly gray lime mudstone to wackestone and grainstone, previously assigned to overlying Red Tops Member (see Hintze and others, 1988, p. 25, Steamboat Pass-Lava Dam section, Red Tops bed 27). Top part of the Hellnmaria (revised) contains fauna of the PROCONODONTUS MUELLERI conodont zone and SAUKIA trilobite zone (SAUKIELLA JUNIA subzone). Age is considered Late Cambrian (late Millardan, Sunwaptan), following Cambrian classification of Palmer, 1998 (Canadian Jour. Earth Sci., v. 35, p. 323-328).
