Named from Haystack Creek, Greer Co., southwestern OK (US geologic names lexicon, USGS Bull. 896).
Type locality: Haystack Butte [The Haystack], in sec. 23, T. 7 N., R. 23 W., about 6 mi west of Moravia, [Willow 7.5-min quadrangle], Greer Co., southwestern OK (Scott and Ham, 1957).
